California May 2022
MAY 17: So, from Mexico City I went directly to Los Angeles. Collin was kind enough to arrange a ride to San Marino for me with Mallory.
MAY 18: Wednesday was a workday, but I fit in a walk to the CalTech turtle ponds, of course.
MAY 19: After work I took Grandma and Aunt Louise to Rose Hills and we visited all sorts of relatives.
MAY 20: The highlight of Friday was meeting up with Blair, Collin and Mallory at the Smoke House. The whole meal was a huge hit but we didn’t buy a photo. Also on Friday I took pictures around the house. Outside of the house.
MAY 21: The reason I was in LA is that nearly a year earlier I had bought tickets to this festival called Just Like Heaven and now it was finally time to go. A great chance to see a lot of bands that I really liked 15 years ago. Where does the time go?! I feel like I like all these bands still. Saw: The Cribs, The Raveonettes, a tiny bit of Peaches, !!!, the Hives, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, the Shins, a little bit of Modest Mouse, MIA (who was amazing), and Interpol. Also found a fun little workaround to get into the VIP section. We love a fun little workaround! After the show I drove by David Lynch’s house. For fun. And also…wouldn’t you think I would’ve taken more pictures from the festival? Me too!
MAY 22: A nice, full Sunday. Before church we ate scrambled egg pitas because Zankou sure gives you a lot of pitas. Then there was church, Sunday dinner, another walk to the Turtle Pond, game night, and a meetup with Lucas at Lucky Boy’s followed by dessert at Twohey’s.
MAY 23: One more day! Lunch and portraits with Collin at the Boat followed by one more Turtle Pond visit and some time spent getting all of Grandma’s streaming services working right. And then it was Goodbye, California, thanks for having me! (via the Ontario airport, of all places)
